Taiwan's MiTAC International, which manufactures the Mio- and Navman-branded PND (Portable Navigation Devices) and engages in contract production for other PND brands, said in a filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange on December 15 that it has signed a US$96.0 million agreement to purchase US PND vendor Magellan Navigation's consumer products division, Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported. The deal entitles MiTAC to Magellan's PND-related businesses and assets, including software, IPR (Intellectual Property Rights), patents, management staff, customers, and retail channels, as well as the trademarks of Magellan, RoadMate, Maestro, and Triton. The transaction is slated for completion by January 2009.
